i'm in my nat king cole mood again. it comes in waves and always catches me by surprise. in the morning i'll be listening to gotye, kanye, maybe a little ratatat, and then suddenly all i want to listen to is this man's music in all its awesomeness. when i'm home in fresno i get to listen to one of my favorite local radio stations, 90.7 kfsr (full spectrum radio), member supported non-commercial, which streams live from the fresno state campus. i am able to stream it online, but i love the luxury of hearing it in my truck. during the day they mostly play jazz with special shows for r&b, folk, reggae, and blues. in the evenings from 6-12 they have "evening eclectic" which is a collection of indie and folk music. it's one of the best radio programming i have heard in a long long time. and i listen to a lot of music.
i usually try to steer clear of the radio because i don't hear a lot of talent on it (at least not on the "popular" stations), but kfsr and its full spectrum radio has a spot-on philosophy. full spectrum radio is all about diversity and connecting to the audience through all varieties of music that span numerous genres, years, and labels. it is devoted to making the fresno community a better, more enriched, environment that provokes higher levels of thinking through the music.
i love this philosophy.
betterment of the community? promoting higher thinking through music? commercial free?? these are only some of the reasons i enjoy the station. they also have an app for it. win.
since it's member supported i plan to donate to keep them up and running for years to come. totally worth more money than the "top 40" stations receive daily.
here's to the little man. cheers.
