all of the lights

this last weekend, my roomy's parents came from the no to visit her. on sabbath we decided to make the "little" drive to la ("little" because, everyone who has ever lived down here knows there is no such thing as a "little" drive) to visit the los angeles county museum of art. for those of you who haven't had the opportunity to go, it's the museum with the urban lights installation outside, you know, the one in the movie "no strings attached" with ashton kutcher and natalie portman

the lights installation is actually my favorite part of the museum. especially at night.

the three roomies have been wanting to make this trip for a long time now, but hadn't been able to find a good weekend.

but, alas! this was it. and boy am i so very glad we went. see, as much as i love lacma, the real reason we wanted to go was because of the tim burton installation, which ended on halloween night. we literally waited till the last minute (surprise surprise) to go see it. and like providence would have it, we got the last three tickets of the weekend! they were only allowing museum members to visit on sunday, and monday was the last day of the installation.

so. very. lucky.

after spending a fair amount of time in the rest of the museum (which is huge), it was then our turn to see the installation. see, tim burton, being as amazing that he is, put on a pretty sick as exhibit that had people flocking to see it. there were so many people that you had to buy a ticket and wait for your group's designated time to enter. and even then the whole building was swarming with his faithful followers.

the installation did not disappoint. it was insane. tim burton let the museum borrow tons and tons of his original artwork, poems, short stories, whatever, to be shown at this thing. there were works from his childhood up through his latest film. it was incredible. there were also movie props from his various films.

edward freakin' scissorhands' costume was there. the exact one johnny depp wore. talk about awesome. unfortunately, the museum didn't allow any photos in the exhibit, so i had to break down and buy a book with some photos of the things they showcased. coffee table book! (for when i have a coffee table of my own)

anyway, museum was amazing. tim burton exhibit was incredible. it was worth the little drive we had to make.
