our first stop of the weekend was to jamestown, ca. a few blocks up the road is the state park railtown 1897. this park plays host to a preserved part of the sierra railway, built in 1897. the railway was used to link the then isolated town of oakdale to the rest of the railway.
the railway is in operation today, but only for tours of the landscape. it was super hot on sunday, but the train ride was a lot of fun. i've always been fascinated with trains; i wish i had more opportunities to travel on them. it was neat seeing the beautiful northern california countryside and hear about the history of the mining towns.
