while the title of this post may seem happy, i am disappointed to say that it started out lovely, but ended not so great.
i went to church in the morning where i was blessed with an amazing sermon on a "cotton candy life" by pastor jensen. he was making the comparison between cotton candy and its lack of substance, and how one's life shouldn't be like that, but be filled with more. it was a great sermon and i always enjoy coming home and going to my home church.
one family tradition is to always make the short drive to selma where my nana and papa live to spend sabbath afternoon with my extended family. i love going to my nana and papa's and we always have a good time, even if it's just sitting around arguing over who's better between the dodgers and the giants (clearly it's the giants, but we won't get into that now).
while out there, we watched a movie/documentary called "walking on water", which is a surf film that follows bryan jennings and two kid surfers and their trip around the world that results in finding the perfect waves, as well as faith. it was inspirational to say the least. not only did I get to see footage of some of my favorite surfers, but it was neat seeing their faith displayed throughout the movie.
to me, surfing has always been a spiritual experience. i can't imagine how it couldn't be when you're at the total mercy of the ocean and it's incredible power; power given it by god. my love for the ocean is increased every time i am able to go there. there's no other place on earth i'd rather be. it's my home.
later that night my friends invited me to go see the new "x-men: first class" movie. my friend, tyler, and i have this deal where he buys the movie tickets and i buy the candy/drinks or anything else we wanna sneak in (mostly because i carry a rather large purse). i decided to stop at the grocery store before the movie versus going to target, assuming the goods would be cheaper. i was in there all of about 5 minutes, but when i returned, i realized my truck ("cheyenne") had been broken in to. a case of cds was stolen, as well as my overnight bag.
the stuff in the bag is of no value to anyone else, but of great value to me. biggest loss to me was my brand new andrews study bible with my name engraved on it, given to me by my mom for my birthday this past february. i was most upset about losing my bible. after talking to my mom, we came to the conclusion that i will believe that the bible will be used to changed that person's life. obviously they needed it more than i did. i will pray for this person and hope they use it for good and not just toss it aside.
the movie turned out to be really good. amazing, even. after the third installation of the series i was needed a movie to recapture what the first two had captured. they did all that and more in this one. james mcavoy and michael fassbender (both who are so, very, hot) were the perfect cast as charles xavier ("professor s") and erik lehnsherr ("magneto"). it's probably my third favorite movie in all of the installations, but could be a close tie for second with "x-men origins: wolverine".
unfortunately, i sat in gum or some sort of gummy candy in the theater. just lovely. the upside was that i didn't figure this out till after the movie, so it wasn't spoiled for me. good thing it was an awesome movie or i may have been even more upset. i am actually thinking of seeing it again in theater, which, if you know me, knows i only save that privilege for the best of the best. not bad for a day cheyenne got broken into. poor cheyenne...
